Hi everyone looking for some advice,

Long story short someone made a claim against me reversing into them, (I was there but didn't hit anyone) my insurance company came out took photos saw no recent damage to my car and asked the other parties insurance to provide photos/evidence. 5 months later my insurance company (claims department) have told me that they have spoken with the other insurance company and it is closed at their end and now my insurance company have closed it as well.

Just spoken to my insurance company again and it seems the claim hasn't been marked as closed yet and according to them its likely that it will still stay on my insurance as a 'non fault' claim.

I suppose what I am asking is, is this right? I would have expected it to be totally removed from my insurance or is this likely to just be a admin error that has stopped it being removed?

The person I originally spoke to (when I was being told them claim was being closed) said I could expect a refund on my policy as I had to renew it while this was being investigated and now its closed the added premium I paid would be refunded, I took this to mean it would be totally removed now I am thinking that the refund might be the difference between a fault claim on my insurance and a non fault claim, unfortunately I can't speak to the claim department again now until Monday as they are closed over the weekend.

Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the rant I spent so long with this hanging over me that it was quite a relief when it was finally over but now it looks like its not as over as I thought it was :(

You don't need to speak with the claims people, you need to speak with customer services as they are the ones who deal with premiums / policy. It is likely claims won't really know anything about how this will affect the policy etc and what refund is due.

Thanks for the reply, the customer services people I spoke with said I/they needed to speak to the claims department to see how it was resolved on their system.

I guess they mean to see if it was closed as a non fault claim or closed in some other way. Apparently its two different systems one for the claims team and one for the customer services team that give quotes.

Speak to someone higher up. If this doesn't work, write to them.

Similar thing happened to me earlier this year. It has now been removed from my insurance record, and quite right too!
