Getting quotes before completion

Buying and selling going through ok, but not as quick as I'd like! House we're buying is empty and needs loads doing to it, which we want quotes for. We have to get the EA to come with us every time we want to show a tradie what we need.
It's bad enough getting tradies there at a certain time, let alone getting the agent there too!
Is it really the case that the EA has to be with us on these occasions?
Also, any idea whether £5000 is normal for getting gas to the property?
They are quoting for 43 mtrs of public piping and 9 mtrs on our land. As the two houses opposite ours already have gas, we can't understand why it has to go so far back ......

Depends on the owner/seller. If he's told the EA not to allow unaccompanied viewings that is what the EA must do. if the seller tells the EA to let you borrow keys, then that is what he'll do!forevertrying wrote: »

But what if you borrowed the keys, and moved in....?
Can't comment on the quoted distance for the pipework without looking at the gas pipeline plans! But connection can be costly, yes.0 -
As for the gas install it seems expensive. Where did you get the price from?
if you go here:
https://nggasb2c.natgrid.co.uk/ngcpt-service/index.html#/b2c/connection/theproperty
you can get an estimate of the cost from national grid.0
