New passport arrived with envelope open

Being a bit paranoid, but why did this happen? Surely security is a priority with identity theft, etc, so why did my passport envelope arrive with an open enevelope?

More importantly, what shall I do and who should I complain to?

Wife said she saw who delivered the passport and it wasn't the post ofice. I also paid 3 pounds for secure delivery.

The envelope has WarringtoSS2 on it so I assume it was printed in Warrington (I am not far from there).

Also I posted off my renewal on Monday and it came back Saturday; very fast IMHO!

So what shall I do? D I need to be worried about being apprehended in a foreign land for a crime commited by someone else with a copy of my passport?

I'm guessing the Passport Office would be a good place to start.

Depending on where you live they don't always use Royal Mail, they use couriers.

Somebody to come around lick the flap and seal it down for them so that they can have the excitement of ripping it open :rotfl:

They use couriers, and when I (finally) received my new passport earlier this year the envelope had a completely wrong name on it. However, the important thing is that it reached you. I cannot imagine that you need to worry now, but if you have a Conservative MP you could write about sloppy behaviour at the Passport Agency being a danger to national security.
  • They emailed back saying they could not deal with my complaint that way and i should call.

So I called and was told that since it arrived in perfect condition I should not worry. He did ask if it had been torn open or if it looked like it had not been sealed properly (latter). I said is he really sure!

So when I get banged uo abroad for crimes I did not commit, I will be back here posting my experiences! Hopefully I can point the local consulate at this thread!

It's the paranoia I would be more concerned about...

Maybe the guy that licks the envelopes was off sick and rather than create a backlog they just sent them out unstuck.

depending on where you are banged up, you may not have internet access so any update may have to wait

    Maybe it's an ISIS plot?

They could have an insider working for the courier .... no, really

It could happen, I'm sure of it
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
