I have just checked and it is an optional update. I tend not to install these, preferring to wait until they are recommended. Thanks to your warning I have hidden it. It seems to be a microcode update for Intel processors, improving reliability and fixing issues that could cause O/S to function incorrectly. Unquote!

Had no problem with it here (W8.1). Doesn't seem to be a massive universal problem.

Just updated my Dell Ultrabook running W8.1 and no issues at all.

I've been away, otherwise I might well have installed it when it arrived, and I can see that it's one of the available 'optional' updates. I am on Win 7, so I might wait for a bit and see what develops.

Same here on three computers, I noticed that the reported problems in the link I posted are running W7, as I have never had a processor problem on any machine I have hidden the update for now and will wait and see if there are any more reports before deciding whether to bother installing

Not really a problem that's gained any traction. Three people on that very short thread doesn't really give any reason to believe that it's the update and not their machines etc.
