Building Insurance Help Please!

Hi,
I recently got a building survey done on my gf flat. The surveyor discovered a crack which may need monitoring for approx 12 months. My question is do I have to tell my insurance co (Axa through the Post Office) about the crack, and if I do can they withdraw the insurance when it comes up for renewal (may) in case I need to make a claim?
Thnx in advance!

  • You should tell them - if the crack becomes anything more that just settlement or cracked plaster - then they may refuse to pay the claim if you don't tell them. Being in a flat - it may be that the whole building may be affected in which case your upstairs neighbours will also need to be aware. Axa would be within their rights to withdraw cover - but if this crack becomes subsidence then the date of loss will be now - so you have cover in force.

    Hope this is helpful
