Hotels in Rome

Hi guys.

We are looking to book a holiday to Rome for next week, and I have found a flight which is fairly reasonable for the two of us. But I'm just trying to look for a hotel to go for now!

We have seen a really cheap hotel called Eurostars Roma Congress Hotel & Conference Center, which looks to be a really nice hotel, and for the price is an absolute bargain. But looking around, it seems that it is a fair distance from the centre of Rome, and I don't really know what the transport services are like over there.

So I'm hoping that someone here has some experience with hotels in Rome, and can say whether or not there is a good transportation from this hotel to the centre of Rome, or whether we would be better going for a hotel which is more centrally located (these seemed to come up about £200 more than this hotel). If someone has a hotel they would recommend which is centrally located and a reasonable price (around £450), that would be great :)

Many thanks,

David

Hello, My husband & I travel to Rome quite a lot each year & use "venere.com" to find a hotel. We usually stay at the "Madisson" right across from the train station. It isn't central, however it has easy bus or metro access to the centre. You can take a tube for 1 euro right to the Spanish steps. Madisson is a 3 star hotel & we've stayed there 3 times already, nice people, clean hotel, good breakfast...all for a real good price. On Venere you will be able to look up the hotel you first thought of & it will show you its location on a map, so you will be able to see if it's close enough to the centre or not. Oh yeah, the other reason we stay close to the train station is because, if you take a bus from the airport into Rome it drops you off at the train station (Termini). Taxi's are expensive for tourists in Rome + they charge you extra for your luggage even if you speak Italian like my husband does. So we use the bus system, metro & walk a lot there. We use a variety of Rome travel guide books - AA; DNK Eyewitness Travel Guide; Rome Where To Find...(has various artists attractions in it if you're into art) & Style City - Rome. GOOD LUCK...ROME IS FANTASTICO...WE LOVE IT!!! CIAO!!! ~ BLUroma
  • my husband and i went to rome in feb this year and stayed at the grand palatino which was central for everything we found.we just walked out the hotel turned right and when we stopped at the 1st set of traffic lights we looked across to our left and there was the coliseum we couldnt believe it about a ten minute walk and everything is nearby i wouldnt stay near the coach station as its quite a walk down to everything we had the whole weekend so we just walked everywhere the vatican trevi fountain spanish steps. if you go here we caught the airport bus then walked straight down the road i cant remembr the name of the road but the hotel is right at the bottom of it

We stayed at the Caesar House last year. Very central - right next to the Roman Forum - and easy to walk everywhere. We didn't need to take public transport or taxis anywhere, even to the Vatican which is further out.

It's a good hotel and quite reasonably priced. The service was brilliant, breakfast is delivered to your room every morning.

    Have a good time.

We stayed in the Cosmoplita , very central just up the road from the Colisseum , im not sure of the price though ( it was a couple of years ago ) . I would advise you to find somewhere central what you would save in staying a bit further out would soon be eaten up by taxi fares , plust Rome is such a lovely place to stroll round

Two years ago my wife and I stayed at the Hotel Colonna Palace for a long weekend and we had a fabulous time. This particular hotel is right in the centre, two minutes walk from the Trevi Fountain and just around the corner from the Pantheon; in fact the longest walk was to the Coliseum and the Spanish Steps which was about 15 / 20 mins at a gentle strolling pace in opposite directions. The only time that we used a taxi was to get to and from the airport.

Try putting the following co-ordinates into Google Earth:

    Latitude 41°54'2.64"N
    Longitude 12°28'43.72"E

Wherever you stay I hope that you have a good time, we did.
