I understand the hygiene side. Instead of socks/footwear soaking up your sweat it is now the office carpet. Yuck!!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I come back to my point about going against a company policy that you know exists.
The "I'm sure it'll be alright" attitude might work on a forum but it won't cut it if you're asked why you knowingly went against an office policy - whether you agree with the policy or not really has nothing to do with anything.0 -
Everywhere I have ever worked has a no bare feet rule due to health and safety, however this is when walking around and no one would know under your desk ....... unless your feet smell. Perhaps someone has complained about a smell and a rule against bare feet is the politest way of dealing with it?The most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. Steve Biko0

We are not allowed to go barefoot in our office for elf and safety... due to possibility of injury - pins/staples/paper clips etc.
This could be possible even if you are just removing your shoes whilst just sitting at your desk - not necessarily dropped by you but maybe dropped by others and kicked under your desk/picked up on your shoes and falling off under your desk - dropped by cleaner/hoover.
Our office is also regularly treated for fleas (eek!) but there is a possibility of getting flea bites on your feet which could become infected and it would maybe be unhygienic if some people had fungal nail infection or athletes foot or verrucas :eek:0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗

Probably a safety thing, in case you knock foot against furniture, trap in door, or someone steps on you!
Also, do you want your feet picking up any dust, dirt, spilt drinks, and who knows what else, on the floor?!breathe in, breathe out- You're alive! Everything else is a bonus, right? RIGHT??0 -
I'm amazed at how many people think that taking their shoes off at work is OK!
I sometimes walk to work in flats and change into heels, and if so I make sure I do this in the ladies loo. I wouldn't dream of taking my shoes off in the office any more than i would come into work in a onesie or a bikini top and shorts in hot weather.0 -
I don't think this is uncommon. We had the same issue raised in my workplace. Due to hygiene reasons, people were banned from doing so.0

Why not just wear thin socks so you can slip your loose fitting shoes off under your desk & you are not breaking the barefoot rule.
There's a lot of opinions on here that never read your post proper
I removed my work shoes under my desk every lunch time for years as my feet generally hurt & always felt better afterwardsMay'09 - Won tickets to Night at the Museum 2 June'09 - Electric Dreams DVD0
