They do know about real life, real life is, you can not run at a loss. Be it a mutual, bank or one of there customer.Big_John_246 wrote: »I started this as Nationwide tell people they know about real life, they don't know about real life, when people are in trouble through no fault of there own do they help I think the answer is NO, this is not just the Nationwide it’s all banks, please correct me if I’m wrong and you can name a bank that actually does helps people.
There are many on here that would disagree, because of the funding for lending scheme it is the moderately wealthy that are the real losers.Big_John_246 wrote: »Should it not read "Proud Sponsors of people with money".
Probably make better sense to send an email to CAB.Big_John_246 wrote: »I have just recently sent emails to the chairman of four banks to ask for help, I will leave it up to you if I got help or not.
All three offer reasonable value for money in the modern world.Big_John_246 wrote: »Banks are no better than councils and MP's.

I haven't seen the ad but if Nationwide tell people they know about real life, I could only laugh about the ad. Like I can only laugh about their "Nationwide, on your side" slogan.
I too find their "On your side" slogan a joke, as I told a member of their staff recently, they are not on the customer's side at all
I have not seen the latest advert the OP mentions. What I will say is that, having been a customer of Nationwide continuously since 1978, I cannot recall a time when they have been so inflexible and rule-driven and so disinterested in their long term customers.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
perhaps it's time for Nationwide to demutualise then?0

You haven't seen the ad and yet you comment on it and support Colsten who similarly hasn't seen it. Looks like the blind leading the blind to me.
What we need to understand is that banks and building societies are operating under controls imposed post-2008 and the easy-going nature of the past is just that -in the past.0 -

Well, as it happens, I have now seen the ad, as a very helpful forumite provided a link to it. My initial reaction has been confirmed - it's nothing I take serious, just the usual Marketing hot air.0 -
I think there are way more offensive ads than the relatively innocuous Nationwide ones.0

I was not commenting on the advert so your point is lost on me.
Also I did not support Colsten. I just commented on something he referred to in his post.
I generally do not watch TV adverts, I record everything and skip any ads on playback. But as it is so important to you I have looked at the advert. It is as puerile as I could have imagined.
Your last paragraph is lost on me. I do not feel the need to understand this point.Financial institutions have been making stupid ads like this for decades.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment.
