Mail redirection - what ID to use

Options
Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions.

Son is living in a rented house with 3 others. One of the others is the lead and deals with rent and bill payments etc

They are coming to the end of their tenancy and my son is coming home very briefly before doing some work abroad.

I've printed off from the Royal mail website the form for Redirecting personal mail.

we were hoping to do this at the post office so they can just check the ID and give it straight back

Under section 6 proof of ID required for security it says section one which is the usual things like passport - no issue with this

Section 2 is more difficult - the proof of current address. You can choose any one item

choose 2 utility bills - al, the rented house utility bills are in the other renters name
mobile phone bills don't count - that's his main utility bill
store/charge card bills don't count - he does not have these anyway
council tax payment book - they pay by DD
original credit card or bank statement - not a photocopy - he has paperless bills so does not get monthly statements
original mortgage statement - they are renters

so how does he prove his address? Id there anything else they would accept?

I'm sure the bank could be persuaded to send something out on paper.

It doesn't sound like there's much point in paying for the redirection! He could ask his bank for a statement, although they might charge. Perhaps if he turns off paperless statements now he would get one (possibly too late) at the end of June?

I use paperless billing but I can still print bank statements off myself.

I've also regularly used the Royal Mail Re-direction service but I've done it all online so I don't have to faff about taking bits of paper into a Post Office branch.

What about the tenancy agreement? That should have his name and the address of the property on it.

yes, tenancy agreement might be the only thing.

I was wondering about doing it online but I wasn't sure what proof they would need. If you do it via the post they just need bank and utility bills which they return to you - hopefully the right address

I just set up a Re-direction online last week and I didn't need to provide any forms of ID. Whether or not that's because I've used the service previously I don't know. I can't remember what I did the first time I used the service online as it was years ago.

I think the card used to pay needs to be registered to the address you are redirecting from when you do it on line.

I did mine online recently, and did not require any ID.

As in post no. 9, the card I used was registered to my old address.

It has the address on so usually you can use passport for A and driving license for B.
