So how do you and the children get to school/work from where you live now if there is no public transport til 8am?

Presumably using the public transport which starts at 8am?

    But work starts at 6?
  • I get to work at the moment via a colleague who lives a few doors down. Kids get the bus.

Looking private rentals but they are also oversubscribed, I look on property pal, it's a bidding war even to rent a house, say it starts at £500, few people show interest couple of days later it's revised now £550 per month.

I am afraid there may be little you can do. You might be able to establish a connection to another area if you can demonstrate you work there and your children go to school there. But because of the shortage of social housing, you might have to fight hard to do this as councils will alight on any small thing to give them an excuse to throw your application out.

I'd advise phoning Shelter to find out if there is a way you can get on the social housing list you want to. It is supposed to be possible if you can prove a connection to the area as far as I know (see above).

You could also contact your local MP and councillor, at least they will be able to explain housing policy and get full explanations of what you can do.

Or take whatever private housing you can, in the town where you work. Then if this happens again (unfortunately its quite likely to), you can apply for social housing in the area you want to live in.

I live in a small village, its about 2 mile from the nearest big town, its the town I was raised in, the town I work in, the town my kids go to school etc, The problem is my village is for some stupid reason controlled by another council, the offices some 15 miles away and its even in another county.

The problem is that I decided to go and live in a different county to the one in which I was born, in which I work and in which my children go to school.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
