Annual Travel Insurance

Apologies if this seems a daft question but I am unsure of the answer.
My annual multi trip travel insurance is due to expire at the end of this month.
Back in April I booked a holiday and I travel in August. I have no other trips planned between now and then.
My question is, if I put the start date of my new annual travel policy as my departure date in August, will I still be covered, seeing as I had a policy when I booked?
I hope that makes sense.
Thanks.

If something happens between the end of June and the new start date to prevent you travelling, you wont be coveredChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0

I thought not but just wanted to clarify!
Difficult one seeing as I need to renew my insurance but won't actually be traveling anywhere for the next 2 months!
For years I have had a continuous policy because I travel a lot, but just so happens this year is different.
Thanks for your help.0 -
I've been pondering on this.
If someone books a holiday in advance, as most people do, how do they cover themselves for the trip without having annual travel insurance?
I feel like I'm missing something and just being dim.
Most people buy cover for the time they are away, but what if something happens in the interim?
The only way I can see of doing so, is by having continual insurance?
Can anyone enlighten me?

Annual policies usually work differently to fixed period policies. If you bought a fixed period policy for the (say) 2 weeks you're going away in August, that would normally cover you for cancellation for something serious happening beforehand.
But an annual policy usually doesn't, they're generally designed to be continuous policies which you renew every year. So if you got one starting in August it probably wouldn't cover anything happening before then.
Check the T&Cs but I think most work that way.0 -

Thanks for that zagfles.
Makes sense what you've said. I shall check the T&C's though.
Thank you.0 -
You will be covered for anything that happens before your current policy expires. Your cover will then only commence again when your new annual policy starts or you take out a trip specific policy. So, to ensure you are covered for your August trip you will need to take out a new annual policy to commence when your current policy expires, or, take out a trip specific policy for your August trip. A trip specific policy can be taken out at any time prior to your current annual policy expiring.
But, make sure you get insurance of either type sorted before your current annual policy expires if you want to make sure you are continuously covered.0 -
I've had annual cover for years and although I've changed suppliers a few times for mse reasons, I've not had any gaps so am covered for all eventualities. It's been worth it for us as we're frequent travellers.
I think what you have to decide is whether you want cover for the holiday itself and/or you want cover for future bookings in case circumstances mean you can't travel.
My BIL let his annual policy lapse and then lost a holiday (£2 000) as he was taken ill and couldn't travel. That's an expensive lesson compared with the cost of most policies.
I know this message is repeated on here over and over again but it still doesn't seem to stop the threads with uninsured people asking for help.0 -
I asked my travel insurers this question yesterday very similar , policy finishes June 30th and I'm not travelling till late August, the guy said the only way to do it was cancel the renewal and then start a whole new policy from the new date but it might go up. So now I'm going to search for a new insurer and they will lose my business. Fingers crossed I find a cheaper one lol#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I have had continuous annual travel insurance for many many years and I know the importance of being insured.
It just so happens that this year my current annual policy expires and I have nothing planned till August hence my question.
I will probably just renew my annual policy (or find a new cheaper provider) before my current policy expires.0
