We are planning on going to knock on a few neighbours doors to see what we can find out!

The risk of damp due to it being lower inside - the thing is, he went round with a damp reader tool and he said he was surprised it was so dry, really low readings, so he said the risk of damp at that level was pretty low for such an old house. So I don't really understand how he can come to the conclusion that the insides might be regularly flooding just because there's no carpet!! Unless something can flood once every year or two and not cause actual damp problems?

Aside from that, the environmental search does show up surface water flooding risk but it's a bit down the road from this house. From that website where you can search the flood maps, I can see the blue lines that now appear to exist on most streets anyway, I just assume it's the mains water, or the main sewer, which is always at potential risk? I'm within 50m of it, but my house is not in the blue area.

I'm slowly convincing myself that this will be nothing to worry about, so will let the solicitor do their job and query it, then see what comes back from the seller. They did tick the box to say 'no flooding'.

The houses have been there for 115 years. Is there any evidence of any problems? Research the local paper, knock on doors and ask. I think the surveyor is just covering their backside.

I checked this but can't find any evidence. I have done a lot of research into flooding while buying a house because parts of this area were hit by the latest round of national news flooding the other year and I was dismayed to find houses being sold right on top of where sewage was leaking into peoples basements... being sold at the same price as houses not impacted by floods at all.

This house isn't at risk from river etc, because it's on top of a big hill with no water sources around for a long way. I had been all smug about not being impacted by floods by buying on a hill and look what is happening :rotfl:
