we need to move about 10 wheelbarrows full of soil (not good soil, mixture of clay type soil, top soil and stones) and there is nowhere at all in the front or back garden to lose it, whats the easiest/cheapest way to get rid of it please?

You need either a pair of special trousers:

Or hire the cheapest skip you can find. When I had to move an old rubbish tip at the bottom of the garden, I bagged it up in rubble sacks then got the skip in. As a thought, if you have some 'nice stones' say bigger than a bag of sugar, you may be able to get rid of them separately in the neighbourhood for rockeries etc

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

Hire 8yard skip and use the opportunity to clear out attic/garage/whereever of accumulated junk

Watch out for skip charges, garden refuse is a lot cheaper than general junk, your neighbours may use your skip as local tip, saddling you with a large bill

Garden refuse might be, but this will be classed as building waste, I think. Devon certainly classes soil as chargeable waste now, at the 'bargain' price of £3.50 a sack.

Do you not get ten bags free per year? Apparently we do in West Lancs.

Every authority makes its own rules.

Here, until April this year, building waste was £1.10 per bag. Then, Devon County Council increased the charge overnight to £3.50.

This doesn't please District Councils who have to implement the charges, knowing that it will lead to lots of extra fly tipping and the hassle of getting that cleared up.

Then there's the unseen, unrecorded dodgy disposal. Take a farmer who has 10 tyres to get rid of.

    Does he:
    (a) dig a big pit with his digger and chuck them in?
    (b) put them in a pile and set fire to them?
    (c) drive 20 miles to pay £35 to responsibly recycle them at the tip?

    Difficult one, that! :rotfl:
