Parking Eye Gordano M5 services (near Bristol) result and tip

Just thought I would update the forum with what happened to me.

I got a ticket for overstaying by 35 minutes on a Friday afternoon mid May; for those who use the M5 during the summer months, a Friday afternoon the M5 can get very congested. I could not get out of the car park, I was in the queue for 40-45 mins.

The ANPR is at the end of the exit lane, not at the exit of the car park. I revisited the services 3 weeks after my fine was incurred, with the intent of taking photos etc for evidence, having submitted an appeal, (which was never acknowledged).

I asked to speak to the duty manager at Welcome Break; he was very helpful, and said that he would get the PCN revoked, and took my details. He said that the position of the camera and the traffic on the roundabout to exit the services made the problem with PCNs being issued, because of the queues and people (vehicles) being stuck there for ages.

So if this happens to you; contact Welcome Break or better still revisit the service station, speak to the duty manager, if you have found you are caught out by not being able to leave the service station.

I have had confirmation from Parking Eye today, that the PCN has been cancelled. RESULT!

so the camera must be after the signs saying "motorway , no pedestrians etc" , if so that is a road not a car park ?

The services are off a roundabout at a junction on the M5, not the usual slip roads on most motorway service stations. So you are on a service road to the car park, both on entry and exit.

yup , just looked at google maps , however I feel they are "public roads" and NOT a car park , and as such , not relevant land

Horrible place, one more reason to avoid it if it is infested with ParkingEye.

Just looked on Google Earth and the cameras are about 30 yards from the entry to the roundabout so can easily see a lot of people getting caught out there when busy.
  • Circling isn't parking ;-) Well done.
