I advise you not to buy a block of lessons. Pay full price from day one, have 2-3 lessons a week. She will learn quicker need fewer lessons which means money is saved.

Let her have a couple of lessons with an instructor first to make sure she gets on with them.

Any instructor who wants to make money will also have to to do more lessons than may be necessary to make up the original loss on a block price.

I wouldn't pay for block of driving lessons, at least not in the beginning.

Once I started driving lessons with instructor, after first double lesson he seemed to be ok, so I paid for block of 10 lessons. On following lessons something changed: we started to stop for 20 minutes in various places, he started to be really abrupt and weird, on last lesson he actually yelled at me. After yelling(3rd and 4th from 10 block), I didn't want to continue, but i wasn't sure if he would give me money back. Texted him about rest of the lessons (or money), so he said he didn't want to teach me to drive and was supposed to post me the cheque for the rest of lessons. I headn't seen money for at least couple of weeks (he didn't answer his mobile any more, so I phoned his house number about it. He made some excuses, that the cheque had been sent to wrong address and eventually one day I found envelope with it on my hall floor.

What I am trying to say is, if I paid him individually for lessons, there would be no hassle with getting money back and probably I would be more confident about not driving with him. Maybe he wouldn't try funny games either. Buying block lessons may save you some money, but it really isn't a lot.

Later I found brilliant instructors, I passed with them second time. Although I paid them at the end of each lesson, sometimes they were giving me discount anyway.

What if she doesnt get on with the instructor? Sometimes it happens, nothing wrong with the instructor or the pupil, but you just dont seem to get on.

Each instructor will have their own teaching style.

See how they get on first and see how often the instructor or your daughter need to change days/times.

  • Word of mouth is best. My wife had four instructors all of which weren't up to the standard of when I was learning forty-plus years ago. A lot of known by reputation instructors franchise out but don't keep a proper check on the standards of these and to be honest some are crap.

Pay lesson by lesson. Was they way I did it. Means the instructor has to work for their money and no dragging it out because they know you will dump them without a moment's notice if they take the mick.

Also more chance of being able to book lessons when you want them as the instructor wants your money. There is no incentive on the instructor's part if he has already got your money.
