Time/cost to replace Potterton EP2000 controller

Inherited an old Potterton EP2000 central heating/hot water controller when we moved, and its clearly faulty as its held together with electrical insulation tape and the hot water is continually on, 24 hours a day.
I've found a Potterton controller (Potterton EP2) that's a replacement of the old, obsolete version, whats involved in changing one please? Want to know so I can prepare myself roughly for the bill the plumber gives me
Many thanks

I'd check you set the times day etc correctly first?
Although obsolete you can still get EP2002 which superseded the EP2000. (Only difference is that it has separate timers for weekends.) Back plate and wiring is the same just remove back plate from new and fit directly to old replace without doing any wiring.

Or flea bay

ep2 will also work but back plate is different so some wiring is involved, plumbers /gas engineers will replace some will tell you to get an electrician to do so. The later more than likely being the cheaper option 50 - 100 plus cost of new programmer dependant on location etc Electrician would be lower end of pricing plumber would likely be higher:rotfl:0 -
Thanks Brighton (love your city by the way)
Think I'll try the EP2002 first like you said, to save on getting a tradesman in.
I g oon holiday in 2 weeks time for 2 weeks, and wont be needing heating or hot water obviously while im away ,is it OK to turn on off the hot water heater/cylinder while im away to save some money til the controllers been replaced?
Thanks again0
