Service cost?

Hi all,

Just had a bill from local garage for a service on my 1.9tdi fiat sedici. The final bill was 218 quid which included replacing all filters (oil, air, pollen and fuel filter) drain and refill engine oil, carry out visual check of car and components.

Can someone tell me if this is a fair bill or is the garage I'm using very expensive?

Thanks

Cam

Without a breakdown of the bill it is difficult to comment, but it doesn't look excessive to me. £180ish plus VAT.

seems fine but you could get a couple of online quotes from servicemycar.com.
I would have agreed the price first and any additional work to be agreed before carrying out.

    Is a 4x4?
Remember you do get what you pay for. A £99 service at Kwik Fit may not be the same as the full service at a Fiat specialist.

Sedici is Italian for 16. I.e. 4x4. Price sounds reasonable to me.

Is that in line with what they quoted you when you asked them to service your car?

If it has changed considerably from what they quoted and you agreed too then I would ask what has changed.

lets just say you could have done it yourself for around 30-40quid for the filters/new oil and it wouldn't take you more than 30minutes to do all that.

I always shake my head at these ''posh people'' who can't do such a simple thing as change oil/filters, it would take you less time to do it yourself than to schedule a time at service, bring the car there, than pick it up etc.
  • if you came to my garage if would have cost you £193.54 inc vat £75 + vat labour in crosland parts. if they wanted better parts then price goes up
  • Hi all,

Thanks for the replies, I normally service my cars myself however we bought this car second hand with fsh so we wanted to maintain it having never taken a car for a service at a garage before I had no idea of what the ball park figure was.

I think for future I will service it myself and just keep the invoice for the parts from the local motor factors and fill in the service book as a self service.

    Thanks for the replies

You can get a service for £100, but all they will do is spend 10 minutes on changing the oil and spend 2 hours looking for other parts that may need replacing in the next few years to add onto the bill.
