Things to do near Cemaes Bay, Wales

Options
Hi guys

We are staying at Cemaes Bay for a week. Anyone got recommendations for things to do and places to go for days out? Quite a few of us going, ages ranging from 5 years old and up

Thanks in advance

I'm sure you're already aware that Cemaes is in a fairly remote spot on the very top of Anglesey so you need to be prepared to travel if you want to takes days out.

There are a few attractions nearby in Amlwch (Parys Mountain, The Copper Kingdom and the Sail Loft) and also in Holyhead (South Stack Lighthouse, the Maritime Museum and the Caer Gybi Roman Fort). There's also a retail park just outside Holyhead which isn't massive but has a Tesco Extra and a Morrisons which might be useful if you're self-catering.

There are plenty of great beaches on Anglesey (assuming the weather plays ball) so try Rhosneigr and Newborough.

The one place on Anglesey I'd say was a "must do" is the town of Beaumaris. It's got a 13th century castle, you can visit the Gaol and the old Court House and the pier is a popular place for crabbing. You can buy crab lines for a bit over a quid in town and use any manky old piece of meat for bait - don't think you have to use best quality bacon, a piece of out of date processed ham will work just as well.

Elsewhere on Anglesey places that spring to mind are Pili Palas Nature World, Anglesey Sea Zoo, Plas Newydd stately home, Trac Mon racing circuit and village of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (which has little to offer other than photo opportunities).

Over the water you've got Penrhyn Castle (a stately home not a real castle) near Bangor, Greenwood Forest Park near Caernarfon for younger kids, Caernarfon Castle and Air World (aviation museum) at Dinas Dinlle near Caernarfon.

You might also consider a day out to Llandudno and Conwy (the towns are close enough to visit both in one day) and/or Pwllheli and Porthmadog (likewise).
The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us
Baby we were born to walk

Wow, thank you for all that info :) really appreciate you taking the time to write all that. that has given us some really good ideas. Yeah, we realise its a remote place. But we have cars, so will be driving everywhere. :)

Anglesey itself is fairly small with a car . I like Bull Bay & Amlwch for the beaches . Red wharf Bay too . more beachy than the rugged side . Fat Andy has coved brilliantly . There are some good car bootys if that floats your boat too . Caernarfon & Llandudno for a good day trip . Holyhead isn't much really
 hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world
