Masonry bolt won't go in all the way

Trying to fit a gate post with 150mm masonry bolts into thick stone wall.

I drilled the hole without a problem and there is enough depth to take the counter-sinked masonry bolt.

But when I use the socket wrench it stops half way and doesn't let me screw it in any further.

Does anyone have any advice for me please as I don't want to wreck the wall.

Ta :)

  • Use a vacuum to get debris out of hole.

I just checked with a torch and it looks like that might be it. What a wally.

Any tips on getting it out? I thought it all came out when I put put my drill in reverse and got the hell out of there...

Thanks I will give that a try.
  • Also does any one know what will happen if I put my bolt in (to check there's enough depth), then take it out, and then put it in with the gate post?

Will the hole be useless as soon as the bolt has gone in and then been removed? Or would it still go in and secure itself the second time?

My method: very gentle blowing as sometimes a vacuum cleaner can make slightly loose grit fall into the hole and you'll be at it for ever more. Then very gentle dabbing with a piece of damp cloth wrapped round a thin stick.
Always worked for me (and you've no idea how I wish I didn't know what to do :rotfl:)
