hi
I'm after a bit of advice, today I found out I have had a DEA deducted from my monthly wages, I spoke to my HR department and they told me they have had a letter from the court to deduct a % from my wages on behalf of DWP, and that I should have received a letter too, They 'think' its for an outstanding benefit dept.
1 I haven't had a letter
2 I haven't claimed any benefit since 2005 when I started working full time after having my son....
Before I phone the phone number my HR department gave me is there anything I need to know?
Thanks in advance.
Jenny.

The DWP have this power.
If you - in 2005 stopped claiming benefit, it is likely the DWP do not have a current address for you.
If you had a crisis loan or other loan, and had not paid it off in full when leaving benefit - then they may recover it.
The limitations period does not apply.0 -

I changed my address while still claiming benefits in early 2004, told DWP that I was in full time work in sept 2005 and only moved last year (2014), so for 9 years I was living at the same address that DWP had for me.
I have had no letter or contact from DWP to tell me I was in any dept with them, otherwise it would have been paid in full at the time, I have had no letter to inform me that they would be doing a DEA from my wages, I have worked at the same job since 2005 as well.0 -

it doesn't have to be a social loan. It could be an overpayment of Income support/JSA/ESA.
You say you were receiving benefits before you started work. What benefits were you receiving and what were your circumstances at the time?
Historical debts like these seem to be occurring all the time - guess it comes from some kind of auditing.
How much is the debt?0 -

I was on JSA then Income support, i was living on my own looking for work then fell pregnant in 2002 and had my son in 2003 and was then a single mum until i met my husband in may 2005 and then moved in with him after starting my new job in sept 2005.
The dept was £353.91 minus the DEA of £46.06 that has been taken out my wages.0
