kids gotta dress up for school this friday. the subject is egyptians. any ideas? cheap and easy ones please and practical as they have still got to go to school in the costume and be able to be mobile in it. my kids are 9.
I did think about getting some bandages and trying a "egyptian mummy" idea.

Hi bindiboo,
I hope that you don't mind, but I'm going to move this over to the family board where you may get more responses.

Just add a hat (bit like a bishop's) , a bit of eye makeup (elongated to the side) and get the full Nefertiti look....I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
On the walls of the tombs, the pharoahs are depicted wearing mainly gold and turquoise colours.
You could make a collar (from neck to shoulders) to sit on their shoulders, with concentric rings in either all gold or all turquoise colour.
The cat was sacred to the Egyptians, so they could carry an ornament/soft toy cat.
Make a sash (belt) for around their waist in gold & turquoise colours.
If their garment is sleeveless, make wrist bands around 2" wide in turquoise colour and gold edges.
Apply black kohl/eyeliner to make Egyptian (Cleopatra style) eyes for both male and female........you didn't give the children's gender.
And finally.........when they're all dressed up and ready to go.......remind them that they are pharoahs so they need to walk slowly and regally.
I hope this gives you some ideas.

Excellent ideas so far!
Would agree with plenty of eyeliner, and the sash idea.

thanks for all your ideas folks!!.
My boys (twins) went in this morning, one dress as King Tut white sheet over joogers and tshirt with belt around waist, a collar painted in gold and blue around neck and i made a phaoroahs mask.
The other twin went in as a mummy ( or as he keeps saying, he's a daddy:rolleyes:)
Made a mummy sorry a daddy!! mask covered in white strips of tissue paper and bandage and then tack strips of white sheet onto some joggers and tshirt and wrapped lengths down arms etc.
I don't think schools realise how difficult it is sometimes to come up with quick and easy costumes (and cheap). i wonder which subject they will be doing next!!!!!!!:rolleyes:0 -
Well when you know! Let us know.... This is fun!
