Claiming against Aviva

Hi guys
just need some advice really - my other half was hit by an Aviva driver and they are at fault. they are trying to give him 3 k because they are deducting a 850 for salvage?? the car is worth at least 6k!!!! What even is salvage??!!?
Any advice appreciated!

Salvage is whats left of the car. If they are deducting it then they are implying that you will be keeping the car after the settlement.
As you arent claiming from your own insurance you have no way of escalating to the FOS however most of their advice on how to value vehicles is still valid. See http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/publications/technical_notes/motor-valuation.html0 -
If you are sure the car is worth £6K (and don't want to keep it), then tell them you don't want to keep the salvage, send them the evidence of it's market value and don't accept the offer now on the table.0

Note that your negotiations with Aviva won't be covered by the FOS, so your alternative if they won't budge will be to sue.
Or (assuming you have comprehensive cover) put the claim through your own insurance who will be covered by the FOS, (and won't be majoring on you keeping the salvage).0
