Credit note not honoured by B&Q

I tried to redeem a credit note for £20 from B&Q yesterday. The writing on the credit note was not clear in some places, and so they could not scan the full barcode on the credit note. However, it clearly had the name of the manager of the store on it, thus indicating which store the credit note was issued in; it clearly had the amount of credit due, and it clearly had the date on which it was issued. B&Q say they cannot read the barcode number. They blame it on the fact that the number must have got wet. That's not true, as I keep all my receipts from B&Q carefully (for tax reasons). I suggest it is the quality of their printing ink which is faulty. I think based on the above, I should be given £20 in credit. What do you think?

Unless you noticed at the time itll be difficult to prove.
They cannot scan the barcode so as far as they are concerned it could have already been redeemed. All of the dates and manager name/store name doesnt matter as they cannot prove it hasnt already been spent.0 -
I think you should write to head office providing as much information as possible. I received one when I returned a product I had bought with a giftcard. It's just a till receipt! Too easy to loose, easily spoilt. I couldn't wait to get rid of it and now try not to shop there in case I end up with another one.0

If one can make out the human readable version of the barcode which should be printed just under it, then that should be enterable. There is surely more than one place where the serial number of the voucher can be found.0

I am sure there was a really similar post to this, where someone folded the credit note which broke up the ink on the bar code.
Not sure which store it was, but might have been B&Q too.
I would write to them enclosing a scan of the bar code, and pointing out that it is unfair that you cannot use it, when they clearly print it on such flimsy paper that is so easily ruined.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Invoice them for the value, see what they come back with.I do Contracts, all day every day.0
