Can I get a refund from online course

Options
I signed up to two courses at Screenwriter's University, an American website.
One of them, I admit I was a bit hasty in signing up for and with I had signed up to a couple of more basic courses first.
As I had not started this course and it was a only a couple of days after purchase, I asked if I could get credit and use them for other courses instead.
At the same time, the assignment dates were for an older version of the course and I didn't know when I had to get my work in by. That took them 6 days to resolve by which time I realised I was behind on this course. My own fault partially, I assumed I would have more than 3 days for the first assignment with the course being a 6 week course called "10 Weeks To Your Feature Film".
They said they won't refund me as the course has already started yet I have not started it personally. The only input from them is teacher feedback but as I've not started, they haven't had to do anything.
One of the features advertised on the course sales page is interaction with other students via the discussion board yet when I go to the discussion board, there is not a single post.
I'm not sure what my rights are, especially with the website being based in the US. I paid with visa debit.
Thanks

If you post something on the discussion board then it's possible that you will get replies from other students.
Everyone else may be the same as you and simply not posting but are waiting for someone else to post first.

Any rights that you have regarding a voluntary cancellation will be based on US law and not UK consumer law.
You may have grounds for a Visa debit chargeback but only if you can show a breech of contract by Screenwriter's University.
