This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning all
It's not 4am yet and I'm awake with a sneezing fit, bloody hay fever!
I don't want to wake hubby who, although he claims not to have slept properly for the last few days, is zzzing away merrily, so I've come downstairs to sneeze/
There is a nasty atmosphere at work, one team member hasn't worked a full week in the last 6 months, most of her time off has been on 'Family Leave'. She seems to have a large family who are constantly ill, this puts strain on the rest of the team who have to do her work & also causes bad feeling as she always manages to get paid for her time off, whereas the rest of us get our pay stopped if we take time off even for close family members.
Hubby has applied for 2 more jobs with all the resultant stress that entails, he's fed up as his team are short staffed as people are on holiday & they have had extra duties dumped on them.
So as I said in my post yesterday, Aaargh.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, light cloud and sun trying to break though. Have a load in WM to put on line shortly.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. Will wake DS2 shortly so he can get ready for school.
Dinner last night was egg, bacon, hash browns, mushrooms and beans, not ideal but necessary as DS2 and I went to his school parents evening. I came in from work, got changed and went straight back out the door with him and then got in 10 minutes before DH finishes work – so we were just a bit busy last night! All his teachers said he’s lovely, (which he is, he’s great company and funny) but he gets distracted easily – again something that’s always been an issue for him, he’s got to work really hard and several teachers are going to give him extra help – he desperately needs this to be able to achieve a basic grade – so he’s now aware he really needs to get his head down. I’ve been telling him he needs to apply himself more since he started senior school but he’s just not academic, but he does seem to understand better now, we’ll see.
Dinner tonight will be Hunters Chicken with mash and veg, I remembered to get the chicken out to defrost – that’s safely now in the fridge. I have a nail appointment this afternoon after I finish work at lunchtime, will peel a pan of potatoes in a mo, so I don’t have to do it with nice new nails.
Work was quiet yesterday, and so don’t expect it to be much different today. Looking forward to my days’ off this week as we’re going away Saturday morning for 1 night with both our boys – to a coastal resort – they know we’re going but don’t know we’re stopping over, so it’ll be a nice surprise for them. Will need to do the normal chores once I get back later.
Keep safe and well x

Morning one and all. Miserable start here, cloud and drizzle! And it's not forecast to improve. Some washing in the basket waiting to go on the line but methinks it will be on the airer instead!
I hope you got back to sleep Hester. Thinking of your own and hubby's work problems isn't conducive to a good night's sleep either. It's rotten working amongst ill feeling and what appears to be favouritism at your place.
Well yesterday's hospital visit was one of the better ones and we didn't have quite as long to wait this time. It left a bit of time for a wander through Leeds before the off-peak train curfew! Finally managed to get my white t shirts (and a black one and a bright pink one too!) from the big M * S in Leeds centre. Bargain too, because of a 3 for 2 offer and a reduction I got all four for £21 instead of the ticket price of £32.
We have the 3 DGDs for tea and sleepover, before school run in the morning. I haven't christened tea yet but DD says they have developed an obsession for dumplings recently so thinking I may do a corned beef hash with dumplings. That's one of Mr TA's favourites too so he should be happy!
Have a good day all and ((((((HUGS))))) if you need/want one. Take care whatever you are up to xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
It's windy here today but warm , I'm off to work for the day . Needs must I really don't enjoy my job anymore . I love the patients they are great but the management is terrible .we have a new young upstart who is trying to look good but actually doesn't possess the skills to get dressed properly in a morning never mind manage a team . Her preferred management style is autocratic - what an @rse. anyway I am putting my cv together
Mum is doing well , she loves her bungalow especially the garden , she's not had a garden for many years and now she has a lovely one , she's in it all day :T
Right off to work have a good day everyone xx0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's a bit grey here this morning but it's supposed to stay dry till the evening. My poor DD15 has developed hayfever and feels pretty miserable. I'm dosing her up but the tablets don't seem to help much. No one in our family has had hayfever before so I'm at a bit of a loss on how to help her.
DD12 is taking Max for his morning walk before school. I am looking forward to doing it myself soon. My friend is coming over for a coffee this morning so I have to run the hoover round and generally tidy up.
I'm a bit worried about my support worker, I had a phone call from the office where she works an hour before she was due to come saying that she was off work for 3 weeks. I really hope she is ok as she only lost her husband a few months ago .
DD12 is making tea tonight, she is cooking chicken in a chorizo and tomato sauce with new potatoes and green beans. I am really looking forward to it.
Well, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all,
Bit gloomy here this morning looks like it might rain off to work for me working with someone I don't get to work with often, so that will be nice we can catch up on all the gossip !
Fish for dinner tonight with new potatoes and peas. OH has had to take the day off due to his bad back, so he can cook tonight I am sure a bit of movement will do his back good
)
Sistercas so glad your mum is ok, my mum is enjoying her garden too, she had a massive one before which was just too much to cope with, her one now is a lot smaller and manageable, its nice to see them getting involved with something again x
Right better get on have good day all xx0 -
Meanmarie - Enjoy having your family with you at the weekend.
HH - Hope someone has a word with your colleague, how do some people get away with it?
TA - Glad yesterday wasn't too stressful.
dumpling - Well done to you.
Hugs to anyone not feeling so good for any reason.
Wet and windy here, washing on the racks inside. Did manage to get some dry yesterday when I got home, DD had put it on before she left for work.
Finished early as I had time owing, went to have my eyebrows waxed and collected a couple of garden planters that were being made by a wood recycling company who employ folk who may not get mainstream work. They put them in the car and they are still there, will need DD to help me to get them out tonight, they are so heavy!
Got the hedge cut which is a good job done, my back hasn't suffered too much so all good there.
Salmon for tea, salads for lunches, DD is watching the calories so she's having one too.
Have a good day, hope the sun shines for you. Take care. XX0 -
Morning :hello:
Hester I know someone like that, she gets full sick pay for 6 months then it reduces to half for a while, then nothing. She somehow manages to go sick for 6 months, work for a few weeks then go on the sick again. Full pay for working no more than three months of the year. There's nothing wrong with her, even her husband says so and he gets really cross about it. I don't know how she gets away with it  Good luck to your OH x
My new routine is working quite well. Things are taking a bit longer than I thought, Scampi is a bit clingy at the moment and he's slowing me down
I expect it's because we've been away, he'll probably settle down in the next few days.
I won't be peeling just-picked garlic again. I usually hang them to dry for a while, they peel really easily. These were far too wet, it took ages and my fingertips were burning by the time I'd finished  They've been whizzed and put on a tray in the freezer in little clumps. The garlic, not my fingers

My carrier bags are nicey tidied away. Most of them anyway, I didn't realise I had so many

My blackberry bush had collapsed in a heap, I suspect little paws had something to do with it
I sorted that once the sun had gone round and it was shady. I walked into the greenhouse and walked straight back out again
It was so hot in there. I'll have to go in before 10am everyday, Scampi will have to cope with having his walk delayed by 30 mins, lol.
I've caught up with the washing. The bedding is in the machine at the moment, there's a nice breeze today so it should dry quickly. Miss tru's PC is not playing ball, I'll have another go at it today.

Morning everyone.
Cloudy and damp here too.
Car was semi-sorted yesterday but needs to go back on Friday for new brake pads. It appears the the squeaking / squealing noise from the wheel area is the cars way of telling me that the brakes need attention! As every other fault shows up as an error code on the dashboard this seems odd to me.
Today I'm taking my sore hip to the docs, I think it's sciatica but want to check. After that I'm back down to Glasgow for an overnighter with mum.
Only having breakfast here and the rest is in the lap of the whimsy gods.
Happy Wednesday everyone.0 -
Good morning all
Overcast here as well, hoping the sun will shine later.
HH I am sorry you are having to put up with the carp involved when someone isn't playing fair. There is always one, and we had one when I worked. She managed to get away with blue murder, and on one occasion when her father died she had 6 weeks off work, whereas the rest of us, as our parents died, just had the statutory bereavement leave of 3.
days.
We are taking DD out for lunch today to a carvery, so no cooking for me, but must put the dyson around downstairs, the carpets need a good hoover. I did lots more decluttering upstairs yesterday, so it is just left for Himself to sort out his clothes, which is easier said than done:)
Have a good day all
