  • I too have received these letters of debt collection after completing their cancellation and posting a letter of cancellation.

Has anyone had any success as I'm getting nowhere with use next?
  • Have you got anywhere with these guys yet?

Have received two emails from Tech Inkasso about an alleged Usenext/Avieto debt.

Usual threats of more charges, taking it further and so on. Relates to an account from 2011which I think I cancelled, anyway I must have because otherwise the alleged debt would be much higher than the €39.95 plus handling fees, interests and reminder fees that has so far added up to a total claim in the amount of €63,13

I think I am right in saying that there is something under UK law which states that any contract must be "fair and reasonable" but perhaps someone can confirm and expand on that. Personally I don't think Usenext's contract is either of those things. The biggest fly in the ointment is they don't provide any service if you don't pay, in other words they "wait" until you pay before recharging your account.

This being the case and none of us has used the service without paying for it. I find it hard to see how this would all stand up in court...which probably explains why they have not actually taken anyone to court yet, at least not that I am aware of.

My take on this is that these threatening emails are all just a fishing exercise. They throw the bait out there and see who bites. Some of us of course will not pay up but there are more than enough who will.

My advice is to ignore it. Unless they serve you with court papers...which they will not, then there is nothing they can do. Sending demands via email is meaningless since they have no way of knowing if the alleged debtor has received the email, even if they can see it's been read, they don't know who read it. They also have no way of "proving" beyond doubt who actually signed up for the account.

These things come in waves. There was a spate of them back in 2009 and it seems they have now started again. Don't answer the emails, don't acknowledge the debt, do not give them your home address or phone number. Like spammers once they receive a reply they know they have a live email address and keep hammering away in the hopes they can scare you into paying.

Please also keep at the very top of your mind, you are not trying to get out of paying for a service you "received" or "used". They don't recharge your account until you pay so you have received a big fat zero!
  • I signed up for the free trial and didn't read the Ts&Cs — now they're saying I owe €100+ for not cancelling at the end of the trial. Thing is, I only used it for 5 mins, if that, and realised it's not for me.

Months later I got an email which I responded to by saying: 'That's an unfair charge, I'm not paying'.

I've had a few letters but I'm just ignoring them to see how fair they'll go.

The way I see it, if it's a load of hot air then I get away with it, but if someone knocks on my door demanding £150 when I could have settled early for £100 — it's a gamble I'm willing to take.

    If that makes sense.

If I was a stand up comedian, I would have a lifetime of jokes and scenarios about DCA and bailiffs; now there's a thought.:)
  • There is a facbook group called Stop the usenet.nl scam for people who want to put a stop to these guys.
  • I just got my first piece of mail from Usenet.nl by a debt collecting agency called Tesch Inkasso for 172, 48 Euros.

Any update if this at all hurts your credit score?

It will not appear on your credit file.

These things won't be chased for long, it's a simple matter of economics, taking action costs time and money, especially from abroad, they will soon move on to the next job.
