Social worker closing case.

Hi,
I wonder what really you would do in our situation. We have a child with severe learning disabilities but is physically active and have a social worker from the disability team visit us for past few years, which does help us to feel that we are getting a listening ear and at least there is something in place to deal with this long term.
The social worker has now informed us that the case will be closed as they are not actively doing anything for our child, but if we feel we need support in future we can just ring them up again.
We do feel let down and especially as our child could have to go into residential care years down the line when we are a lot older and he is an adult and we are not able to look after him. We really really hope it will not come to this but this possibility has been made known to us by one of the paediatricians that dealt with us though it was done in a nice way.
It does seem as was explained to us by the social worker that this is the standard way things are done, if they feel they are not doing anything for the child then they close the case.
Just wondering if anyone else has gone through the same thing.
Thank you.
John

Resources are extremely, extremely strained at the moment, and this is only going to get worse.
While it might be nice for you to believe that it means that something is in place that will help - it doesn't mean anything really.
It is nearly certain the case would be closed anyway at ~16.
Visiting people they can't help, that are not in danger, and are properly taken care of solely to make the carers feel better seems like a questionable use of funds, from some respects.
With the constraints on resources, a visit to you to keep in touch directly reduces services in other areas.0 -
Have you had a carers assessment ?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

We had this a lot with the occupational therapist from social work but it was never an issue as we could go years without needing anything and we just contacted them when any new equipment was needed and my sons case was reopened.0
