How often to speak to solicitors

Hi all
We are in the process of selling/purchasing, our new mortgage has been approved and I believe the valuations/survey on both the house we are buying and also the house we are selling have come back fine. I was just wondering at this stage how often we should be chasing our solicitor?
We are keen to get this move done asap, but I don't want to annoy our solicitor by ringing too much. Since we started this whole process I have only spoke to our solicitor once and that was because I rang for an update. Is it unreasonable to ask for a weekly update ?
Thanks for any advice

Not at all unreasonable... You are paying them a lot of money...... Grow some0

I made a point of chatting to our sol's secretary every Thursday - and when all was completed, taking her a huge bunch of flowers.
Speaking to The Man (or Woman) may be expensive when the clerical staff who sort the invoices are generally as informed & have a few more minutes to reassure the client.
A regular day & time makes it easier!0 -
Establish from the agents in the chain what is happening and where, before ringing your solicitor. If there is stuff going on elsewhere which means your end has slowed down, your solicitor may know less than the selling agent.I am a mortgage broker. A lot of solicitors these days have online case tracking so it's worth asking whether yours provide this service.
If the mortgages are in place then the searches should be underway next. Once they are back the solicitor will submit any legal enquiries following the seller's information/draft contract and prepare all the documentation for presentation to you ready for signing contracts.
I would say weekly contact is a good idea at this stage. When it gets nearer to exchange then it might be necessary to be in contact me often to speed things up0 -
Just don't use Beaumont Legal. Sporadic updates to the online tracker, emails ignored. I wish I hadn't bothered. I even emailed the feedback@beaumont-legal email address and that was ignored0

Is the chain complete?
Have you a date in mind for completion?
Since you have your mortgage and the valuations/surveys have all been done are you looking to exchange now? With possible move in next week or the week after?
If you are looking to move in the next couple weeks then do be on at your solicitor every 2nd day to find out if all is ready to go.
Otherwise give them a call each week to get updates.
If there is something you have asked the solicitor to check for you and are waiting a response from them then do call up every 2nd day to keep them on the ball.0 -
we are in quite a long chain but we are moving into an empty property, and everyone else in the chain has found their buyers.
the problem i'm having is each time i have rang or emailed the solicitor i haven't had a reply its very frustrating. I know that our mortgage is all in place because first direct text me to tell me that they are just waiting to hear from the solicitor to draw the funds down . i haven't had any communication from the solicitor at all.
i did speak to the EA last week who said that the valuation on the property i am selling came back fine and our buyers mortgage has been offered but other than that i haven' t heard anything, my father in law is a surveyor so he completed the survey on the property we are buying again no problems to report.
i am a bit of a worrier and would just like reassurance that everything is going OK and obviously a rough idea of a timescale would be helpful.
on the initial phone call when we instructed the solicitor she did say that she would only start the searches when the valuation results where back, but the survey was completed over 2 weeks ago and with having no communication with her i don't even know if she has started them.Initial mortgage £101,700 Jan 2016 initial end date Aug 2038
