Simple internet sound question

I am sure there is a simple answer to this but I cannot find it by myself. A few months ago I switched off the sound while playing a video on the internet now I cannot get it back. Can anyone kindly tell me what keyboard commands I need to use to get sound back on eg, youtube videos? I feel really stupid, I have tried Miscrosoft Help but with no result, I have hit all the keys several times with ctrl + alt + fn keys in combinations but get nowhere. Now I am very frustrated As I am sure it is simple, please help?

you should have a speaker in the icons near the clock. double click on it to open it and uncheck the mute box.0

and if you have not got that go into control panel and then hardware/sounds and adjust it from there.0 -
My speaker is on Fn & F8. You should be able to see a little speaker icon on the key.Saving a house deposit. Member no.7 100% of target

Thanks for all your replies. I have insalled updated Windows Media player and Adobe Player but the sound is still not playing. and on the Windows Media player site it says either another programme is using it (NO IT Isn't) or my soundcard doesn't support the player - don't know why that should be. I don't have a speaker icon, and the sounds section on the control panel is blank - there is nothing for me to click. I really thought I had just muted the sound - should I just be able to de mute it bu clicking fn and the mute icon on f2 on my keyboard? Sorry this is annoyingly stupid now.0

right click My Computer, Properties, Device Manager (on one of the tabs) and make sure you've got your soundcard installed and it's not got a big red cross through it.0
