Do I report a very minor car theft?

We forgot to lock the car a few nights ago. There is evidence that someone had a look in the glove compartment but was perhaps disturbed and only took a remote for the car barrier at work.
I should report it as it may help the police to know attempted thefts in the area. BUT will it affect my insurance? Will I have to disclose to my insurer even though nothing was taken and the lesson was learned about making sure the car is locked?

In theory you should report it as an "incident", as there is no associated claim then some insurers may ignore it where as others may apply a loading as it makes it appear you leave your car in a dodgy area.
Obviously the majority of people would "forget" to0 -
If they didn't take anything then there is no incident to report. Just a coincidence that you lost the remote at the same time.
The police won't do anything at allChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
There was an evening of break-ins in our village a few years ago, and whilst lots of cars had windows smashed, I'd left mine open, so they took a few low-value items (very old 'emergency' phone handset, candle lighter). I didn't bother reporting this to the insurance company, as I was not making a claim.0
