Council Tax Single Person Discount

Hi,
I have received a letter from the Head of Revenues & Benefits requesting the forwarding address of my Landlord and details of my financial association with my wife as they are questioning my Single Persons Discount.
I am not in regular contact with my landlord, communicating via email only. As the tenant, am I responsible to provide the council with forwarding addresses?
I am also concerned that the council have clearly reviewed my credit file via a CRA, and question whether this is acceptable under the terms of the Data Protection act as I never consented.
I do not have anything to hide, but have taken exception to the tone of the letter. Hence querying my rights and wonder if anyone here could advise.

You should be pleased that your local council is on the ball with regard to ensuring that Council Tax Payers are not being asked to subsidise those who may want to fiddle the system."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

The nanny state is alive
I do not think that the state assuring themselves that taxpayers are not being defrauded equated to "nanny". I think taxpayers would be aghast that checks like these were NOT being done.0 -

The council will be using section 29 of the DPA to do the search .I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -

The nanny state is alive
The nanny state may be alive in some areas of life but ensuring benefit money is spent wisely and correctly does not fit the criteria of that phrase. It's someone else's fault.0 -
By law the landlord must supply an address at which notices may be served on them by the tenant. This is normally included on the rental agreement.I am not in regular contact with my landlord, communicating via email only
This is the address to supply to Revenue & BenefitsThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

This is the address to supply to Revenue & Benefits
Strictly speaking this information only has to be supplied within 21 days of receipt of a written request by the tenant sent to the agent or anyone else who receives the rent. (s1 LTA 1985)0
