Hi
Just moved into a flat. Want to connect ariel but cannot not find an port coming from wall that will allow me to connect my lead. DO flats have a wa,l socket to connect to an external aerial or do I ned to buy a stand alone aerial? Might sound like a silly question but thanks for your replies.

Some flats do have sockets and even communal aerials. Have you looked along your walls? Have you asked any neighbours?
Some people find that an indoor aerial is good enough.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

There is a wire/cable coming out of one of the walls which has been severed and am not sure if this is supposed to be aerial cable. It has a solid metal bit in the middle so think it might be but how do I reconnect if it is as it is only about three inches from the wall.0

The cable on the left is for satellite or cable but helpfully missing a plug, the one on the right looks like it might be the terrestrial aerial but can't quite see. Is it connected to what looks like a splitter or amplifier on the left of the photo?0

The left one (3" one) looks like an aerial cable to me, try putting an aerial plug on then a double socket to join to your plug. Or put a plug on then a female to male cable.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

When you say that the one on the left is an aerial cable, do you mean the black one, leftmost in the box, or the white one, leftmost on the screen?
DJ, the three cables are all cut and not connected to anything - no amplifiers!
What is an aerial plug and double socket and are these easy to connect to the current severed cable?0 -

Yes the black one with white paint on it uppermost in the picture. Aerial plugs and sockets should be available from any TV shop, £ shop etc. Very simple to fit.
If in doubt go into a TV shop and look behind any TV that's on.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0 -
I would agree with the black cable with exposed sheilding and wire is most likely https://youtu.be/Z44TBGhf6j80

the black one to the right/bottom seems to have a plug attached and is fixed to the white wire running along the skirting? what is that wire for?0
