I have just been informed that Talk Talk now charge 80 pence access charge for making a call to an 0845 number!:j And then 7.5 pence per minute thereafter.
How do they get away with this? Before the "transparency" rules were put in place there was NO access charge.0 -
Just find alternative numbers. This thread is old and out-of-date.0

Who told you that?I have just been informed that Talk Talk now charge 80 pence access charge for making a call to an 0845 number!:j And then 7.5 pence per minute thereafter.
TalkTalk set an Access Charge of 7.5p per minute for calls to all 084, 087, 09 or 118 numbers.
The organisation you are calling set a Service Charge and this depends on the number called. For 084 numbers this can be up to 7p per call, 7p per minute or a combination of both.
The organisation advertising the number must declare the Service Charge alongside the number everywhere it is advertised or promoted.
Service Charges can also be checked at: http://checkit.uboss.com/
Be clear these numbers are banned for customer services, financial services and public services.
Before the changes, TalkTalk kept part of the call charge and passed part on to the called party and their telecoms provider. The total charge was listed in their 200-page tariff guide and each provider produced a similar list. There were over 300 price codes for these numbers, and each of those codes had a different price on each network. How do they get away with this? Before the "transparency" rules were put in place there was NO access charge.
Depending on which number you were calling, TalkTalk retained anything from 1p per minute to 50p per minute or more. Now it is 7.5p per minute for all 084, 087, 09 and 118 numbers.
Some mobile providers were retaining up to £5 per minute on calls to some numbers. Now it's around 50p per minute for all such numbers.0
