Insurance claim for a car accident, been double paid

Hi, my boyfriend was in a car accident at the beginning of last year. Finally the money was sent through by cheque which I dutifully paid into my boyfriend's account. Unbeknown to me, my boyfriend had requested that the money be paid directly into his account. This took the standard 3 days which was the same amount of time that the cheque took to arrive which added to the confusion. So we have been paid twice and put both amounts into the bank. Should we speak to the insurance company to tell them or wait until we hear from them?

Up to you. Its their money and they are entitled to it back when (if) they spot their mistake so as long as you dont spend it you could leave it there earning interest.
Was it a fault or non-fault accident?0 -
Thanks for your response. I was thinking to do that. It will be sitting there if they ask for it back. I will keep my fingers crossed that they don't notice!!
Non-fault0 -
Arguably if its non-fault the chances are smaller but it becomes more of a mess for them to sort if it is spotted0

Shameful behaviour. Pick up the phone and arrange to repay what you owe.0

I have just found out the my loan company have my mortgage details down as Bank of Scotland when I am with Royal Bank of Scotland. Someone has told me that the legalities of them having the wrong information can make the loan void. Is this correct?
OP does seem to have problems with repaying what they owe0 -
Is this really something that people have to think about!
A few years ago this happened to me money was paid into my account and I had already received and paid in a cheque from my solicitor after a house sale. I immediately contacted them and it never crossed my mind to try and keep the double anount.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
