I am forced to go on dialup until my new broadband connection is sorted out.
I have a brand new creative blaster internal V.92 modem yet it is only achieving 33.6 kbps
Does anyone know of a fix for this in order to get maximum speeds?
Thanks

Well 56kbps is a lot faster than 33.6 and on the packet it says that a v.92 delivers up to twice the speed of a v.90Millionaire wrote: »52kbps is maximum, with overheads your running as quick as its gonna to go to be honest.

v.92 is not twice the speed of v.90! It basically adds a few frills that nobody uses because most ISP's never updated their banks of modems. see here.
When you first connect with dial up, the negotiated speed is displayed but this is only a guide. What is more important is the actual download rate, which any good download manager will display. On a good line you can get approx 48kbps possibly 50kbps on a good day. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I am stuck on dial up because BT are as clever as a few mouldy banana's. I feel your pain.

Thanks all for previous responses.
My greatest problem being on dialup is of course downloading files.
I seem to get disconnected once every hour which may be normal but it is effecting downloads.
If I'm cut off in the middle of something then it is lost.
I know there are programs out there that allow you to continue downloads in stages, picking up from where it left off
Does anyone know of any good ones, preferably freeIWasLookingBackToSeeIfSheWasLookinBackToSeeIfIWasLookinBackAtHer.....0 -
