SSP ending

My company sick pay and SSP is ending soon. I will receive half pay from my employer as they have a Group Income Protection policy in place from which they get a payout. Would I be able to claim ESA (contribution based) until I am fit to return to work in the next few months?

You may need to seek advice from CAB (choose one with a benefits specialist) on this one.

My understanding is that if it is the company that has the policy in their name (so in effect just paying you 'contractual sick pay') then you can claim contribution based ESA and the half pay would not be taken into account.

However, if this was an income protection policy that you paid into then it would be treated as a pension and 50 % of any money over £85 a week would be counted as income and deducted from your ESA.

It may help if your employer stipulates that the policy is in their name and writes a letter to that effect.
