Retrospective Home Insurance Claim

I recently had my kitchen ceiling replaced after the bath leaker through and damaged it.

Rather stupidly I got the work done and paid for it without contacting my insurance company.

Can anyone recommend whether it would make sense for me to contact them and try to claim the costs of the repair back?

    How much were the costs?

Did you obtain more than one written quote and if so do you still have these?

The cost was £600, do I didn't get any other quotes as I've used the builder for other jobs so know him to be reliable.

Is there an additional excess for escape of water?

Do you have any photos of the damage?

You may find it difficult to claim as if the insurer sent someone round to view the damage - there would be nothing for them to look at.

You'd have to send in all invoices / reports from the contractor.

I'd check your excess as most policies have escape of water excess of £350.00+ these days. Which means you'd only get £250.00 back and your premiums may rise more than that over the next 3 to 5 years.
