Who would you fly with??

Hi,

So from the holiday withdrawal threat I had said I would start my own with my around the world travel plans :j

I'm really flexible with travel plans I have ideas of where I'm going but only constrained by money, get down to a certain level then move on...

My first question to the lovely forum people is who would you fly with??

My first stop is Mumbai and I'm going to be in india for 3 months... I've researched a couple of options:
I could fly from Birmingham (closer to home) with Air India just a one way ticket and then book subsequent flight to SE asia at a later date, or with Emirates and book a multi stop ticket to New Zealand (I'm going on a working hol visa to NZ) so UK - India - Thailand - Sydney - Auckland I have an emirates CC card and been collecting sky miles :D

Or to fly from a london airport there is - Jet airways, Air India, Qatar and the above emirates and others but they are more expensive to choose from

Thanks

xx

I've looked for Sydney and am finding Flying East mid to dublin (first with Ryanair) then dublin to London to Sydney is working out cheapest and that's with British airways. It's working out around £700 return but the good thing is is a few of the flights you have to change airport. I've asked if you have to pick your bags up and they said you do so I'm thinking of just travelling home from London. Might be same to India. Try skyscanner as I'm finding they are the cheapest at the mo from them, sta and travelsupermarket

    Thanks Dawyldthing,

Its mainly peoples experiences with flying with different airlines, I've flown with Virgin atlantic (which wouldn't again due to there customer service and there old planes!) Singapore, air asia, Air new zealand (Who I'm thinking of flying home with as they were amazing!!) internal quantas flights and tiger air.

I use http://www.momondo.co.uk/ for flight checking depending on who its with you can get flight centre/STA to price match so booking with someone more well known.

Thanks again and I hope your plans/weight loss is coming along well!!!

If you didn't like Virgin I can't imagine you would like Air India

Personally I would use Emirates to get to India: depart from your local airport (or from somewhere in Europe if that saves enough to justify the trouble); perhaps use the Dubai stopover to pop over to explore Muscat (a place I have been curious about for many years); and a choice of arrival points in India since Mumbai might be a bit too much after a long flight.

At the end of the three months there are plenty of ways of getting over to Bangkok. It is not a long flight so even a low-cost carrier or Air India would be bearable. And Bangkok is a major market for cheap flights, so I would arrange onward transport from there. Of course you need a visa for Thailand if you arrive without an onward ticket, but that enables you to stay for longer than 30 days without problems so is probably worth the trouble.

I'd ask someone like STA or Trailfinders to cost up the full trip for you. There's some amazing Round the World fares that can be significantly cheaper if your trip is less than 365 days total.

For your route, I'd chose Emirates for flexibility. If you were just flying to India, I'd go Jet every time, poarticularly if you could afford their Business class.

Speak to Emirates when you know the exact dates, because you won't find this type of fare online, no matter what the websites say. ;) They might well surprise you.

    Hi,

Thank you, littlereddevil - I think is more of a personal thing with Virgin, I had an horrendous time trying to change my ATW ticket last time with them, being bounced between people, not answering the phones all while on a train in china!!!

Voyager2002 - Yes I think Emirates are being to pull me a bit more, I'm not really fussed on where I fly from for the long haul, I was orginally looking at going to Amsterdam for a couple of days before flying to India, might still be on the cards :-)

Thanks Duchy I used STA/fightcentre for prices on my last trip in 2010 and ended up booking Thomas cook as they beat the price, But I'm planning on being away for longer than a year and my routing is a bit strange if i decide to book it separate.

Thanks Blue 264 - I've found the multi stop ticket on there website, its good to have a play with different routes some were just exstream prices but the above route comes in around £1000

I'd say Emirates too, I've flown with them many times & they've definitely been the best so far for me. Enjoy your trip, you lucky thing you :D
