we have an old ipod (unsure of generation model) thats been dropped and bruised and battered but until last week, still worked fine. Then it died on us, blank screen. Put it on charge for 24 hours and at first it come up with the battery low image, and still showed the date/time on the std home screen, then the screen went white
We cant get the tracks off the itunes it was loaded from as it was an old laptop thats been replaced (I know we should of backed it up), just wondered if theres any way of getting one last breath of life from the ipod, just enough to back it up to iTunes on the new laptop?

Find out which generation, if it's a really old one then you can remove the hard drive.
If it's flash memory you would find it difficult. You could buy another same ipod and use the spare parts to repair your own.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Surely if everything's sync he'd to your iTunes account you can download from there? Or does that not always hold in Cloud?
Hubbie has pinched all my iTunes stuff for his iPad that way, I'm about to do the same as our pc has died. :j:D:beer::eek::A:p:rotfl::cool::):(:T0 -

Maybe if you could describe it OP, others may be able to identify the ipod.
Wouldn't any music be backed up on iTunes and your PC or Mac? Even ipod touch (the only ipods to connect to the internet) ask you to download iTunes on a PC when connected0 -

But can't you access your own iTunes account from a different computer? I thought that was the whole faff around them doing that iCloud thing; so you could hold your music somewhere in the Cloud and would be able to re-download it to a new computer/laptop/Mac/whatever. Maybe not all of it but if you purchased or downloaded anything from iTunes.
I was able to do this when I wiped my ipod; they did this in the Apple store when my ipod was faulty and they wanted to wipe it clear to try and see if this stopped the problem and then via their wifi were able to re-download some of the music so I had something to go home to.
Or have the stopped the icloud?0 -
Make an appointment at an Apple store to ask for help?0

The problem is, I believe, that Apple, in a bid to prevent piracy allow you to copy music from iTunes to iPod but not the other way round.
This is to prevent you connecting a friends iPod, that has music you don't own, and copying the music into iTunes.
If the music on the OPs iPod is not known to the version of iTunes he's now using, it was loaded from a long gone laptop, then as soon as he tries to sync the iPod with the current iTunes it won't copy the music off the iPod and will try to remove it.
You can do what the OP requires but not with iTunes. There are other other third party programs that allow you full access and a simple Google search will find them. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
Thanks all
Managed to get the ipod touch to charge, and kind of hold a charge but when i connect it to the new laptop/iTunes, it does nothing then says after a while 'Could not connect to #### ipod, the device timed out'0
