    YES. Then cut it again.

They all get paid far too much.

Would you favour cutting child benefit further for the more affluent?

Remove charitable status for private schools.

I wouldn't do anything with the State Pension for ordinary-rate taxpayers – it really is pitiful. I feel terribly sorry for people who are vulnerable and perhaps ailing (and who have paid NI for 40–50 years), and think they should have the best care possibly. I think a society that doesn't value and take care of its elderly is really not worth much.

However, I would look at State Pensions and other benefits of higher taxpayers, especially people like MPs and others who have a large amount of income anyway.

State pension isn't supposed to be any more than a safety net. With an aging population the only way to get more out is to pay more in. Whether it be private or state.

You'd cut the pay for all public servants?
In many public services of course new joiners are already on considerably less generous pay and pensions packages to older workers. The growing problem with that of course is that the newbies arent hanging around for very long, and as a consequence some if not all public service workforces are ageing rapidly.
I'm biased, but i can't see too much more Osborne can cut or even redistribute from public servants pay and conditions that won't have severe consequences to our already stretched public services nationwide.

Means test the state pension and other benefits paid to pensioners. It is a joke that asset and income rich pensioners receive state handouts - transferring wealth from poorer people to richer people would never be acceptable in any other context and it's high time this ended.

I'd like to see higher taxes put on things that are bad for you and therefore can end up costing the NHS. Chocolate should be shrunk or taxed higher so that people get less fat for their buck, reducing their intake.

As an ex smoker, i think they should add more tax to them so that people are less likely to start and get hooked when it is so expensive.

As an ex binge drinker, beer should have a quid put onto the pint.

I'd also like to see taxes increased on gambling companies, they make a mint.

And maybe child benefit reduced to one child no matter how many they have, if you've had a kid you can't afford, the state will help, if you have two kids you can't afford, you're milking the system and should get nothing.
  • Well, as I'm on hols at the moment, sipping wine on a dimly lit balcony looking at the Med and the stars and casting an occasional glance at this forum, I don't feel too inclined to comment seeing as how my public sector pension is paying for it.... but I will.

    1. Abolish pension triple lock and replace it with +.5% above inflation instead. ( I won't get mine for over a decade yet anyway, so no "special pleading" from me.)

    2. Suspend new investments in cash and shares ISAs for 3 years for those who have maxed out for the last 5 consecutive years. Those with 15k pa to invest each year don't need tax breaks.

    3. Impose a 1000 quid fine on every Tory MP who utters the phrase "long term economic plan" (or close variant) on the floor of the House of Commons and fine the PM 5 grand every time he fails to give a meaningful answer to a question during PMQs

I think these 3 are a good start and if the budget speech could end with G.O. gupling down a large brandy before topping himself with a revolver ...... well, I suppose you can't have everything....

And with these considered thoughts, this is Crete signing off.

Introduce a rule whereby 2 laws need to be scrapped for each new one introduced.

    Time limit spending Acts.

Time limit welfare benefits for the able bodied.

I think ISAs should be limited too - they should be to encourage saving for a safety net, the wealthy building up huge tax free savings does not benefit the economy.
    I think....
