Memory issue - new laptop has less storage?

Options
I've been setting up my new laptop and downloaded "Drive" to act as a backup. Drive started transferring existing files and folders to my new laptop too which is great as my old laptop is broken. However I got a warning stating that there is not enough space on my new laptop with the result that only some of my existing files transfered to my new laptop.

I would like to have all of my files available locally and also backed up in the cloud.

What is the best way to do this? Some kind of portable disk drive? Can I go back and choose which files and folders from Drive to store on my laptop until I get a better solution?

I have an Asus T100ta with 32gb of storage. In Drive, I have less than 15gb of files. I need to check what space the other programs are using. I have only just started using the new laptop. It has had some problems with charging and Firefox is newly downloaded but has crashed a few times already. A dud?

Go to My Computer, or Computer (assuming Windoze), and look for your fixed hard drive - this will usually be the C drive, or C and D, where D contains your recovery files.

Right click on C and/or D, and select Properties from the sub-menu

Tell us what the used and free space is.

That 32GB of storage also has your operating system on it so you probably only have half or maybe less of that storage available for your own files

It's sluggish, as I am typing this the characters/words do not appear instantly. There is also a message saying that there was an error while syncing.

It supports Micro SD cards, get a 32GB one of those and use it for data. If you fill the 32GB internal storage with the operating system, applications plus data, it will get slower and slower....

In other words, it is full. Windows doesn't like a drive with no free space.

A micro sd card sounds good, thanks! So just leave it in permanently and treat it as storage - will Google Drive sync from it?

Edit, just found this and will read through http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-increase-storage-space-on-windows-8-1-devices-with-sd-cards/
