Over the past 2 days my gmail account has started receiving lots of spam

I never use the gmail ref. whenever i use the email addy i use the full googlemail tag, so i know i havent given that address anywhere that it cld be picked up by spammers. Also all the mail is addressed to felisha thacker. I know people might take my user name (flea) and assume im called felisha, but no idea where the thacker comes from

How can i stop this spam. Unfortunately i only have ipad access and it seems you cant mark messages as spam on an ipad

Well, you can check the email, if there's a unsubscribe link at the bottom. If it does, you can just click it.

Firstly .. NEVER do this ^^

All this does, it tell the sender that you are a live email address .. And in the unlikely event that they do remove you , they will just sell on your address as a "known live account" ..

Secondly, the domains "gmail" and "googlemail" are totally interchangeable, So if someone has picked up your "googlemail" email address, the spam bot might just be replacing the word "googlemail" with "gmail" and it would work fine ..

You cant really do much about spam, just flag it as such and google should block any further emails from that sender.

Ignore the mails, definitely do not click any links in them, including any "unsubscribe" links, and it should fizzle out in a few days ..

    Hope this helps

Why on earth would you click an unsubscribe link on spam? That just tells the spammers that they have hooked a live email address.

Yep i havent clicked unsubscribe, as i too thought it wld stop if they thought it was inactive.

Its just odd that they are all being addressed to Felisha Thacker, but from lots of different companies. Think i will will have to login to desktop version and mark them as spam. So annoying you cant do it from ipad

Yes i did. The option to mark as spam and filter emails isnt available on ipad as the dropboxes arent visible

My only option is to mark as junk and hope that the service provider blocks it for me in future

If you have subscribed to a site that sends you frequent updates, like emails about upcoming sales. To unsubscribe to these emails:

    Open one of the emails.
Click the Unsubscribe or Change Preferences link at the bottom.

While you can't currently block emails from specific addresses or domains, you can set up a filter to send those emails directly to Trash.

    On a computer, open Gmail.
Check the box next to the email you’d like to create a filter for.
    Click More.
    Click Filter messages like these.
Fill out information about the emails you want to filter. Click Create a filter with this search at the bottom-right.
Check the box for what you’d like to do with messages that fall into that filter. If you’d like them to get sent to Trash, check the box for Delete it.
