I lost all my stuff on my allotment in the floods so I am going to sow new brassicas now - purple sprouting, savoy, greyhound and christmas drumhead cabbage, romanesco brocolli, kale, autumn calabrese, sprouts. If they come they come, if not well then at least I tried! If I don't do it then I KNOW I will get nothing.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

You're spot on with that! The weather's been sooooooo weird, that anythings possible. For the sake of the price of a few packets of seed (or to use up what you have left over from earlier in the season) may as well have a go and hope for the best.katskorner wrote: »I lost all my stuff on my allotment in the floods so I am going to sow new brassicas now - purple sprouting, savoy, greyhound and christmas drumhead cabbage, romanesco brocolli, kale, autumn calabrese, sprouts. Nothing ventured....

Can I ask what method you're using to sow them please - direct in the ground or in pots/trays and whether indoors or outdoors?
I've just found some packets of seeds lurking in the cupboard - purple sprouting broccoli, spinach, various herbs, carrots and spring onions - but no instructions on when or how to sow them, so may as well give them a go anyway “You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 “You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

Chameleon. I've sown some stuff in modules to get them started. There's been so many slugs about this year they'd prob get eaten as soon as they sprouted otherwise...but I have sown carrot, parsely, more peas & left over onion sets straight in the ground a couple of weeks ago. Sowed loads of lettuce too, hoping the slugs will eat that & leave the rest alone :rotfl:
Got cabbage, calabrese & cauli in modules & will pot on to over winter before putting them in the lottie early spring.
So try whatever you have & good luck with it :beer:0

I have sowed them in 6-trays (pots) in my propagator. I have not put the heat on. I covered them with vermiculite rather than compost.3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!
