Fluid/MBNA Query

Hello,
Not new to forum but lost old account & login details!

At the age of 33, having avoided most credit, decided to get a credit card. I own my own home, I've got good savings, bills all paid by direct debit, no 'debts' so to speak aside from student loan. Stable well paid job, the reason I could do with a credit card...I will be doing some overseas travel for work (USA).

I did a money supermarket soft search and without really looking into the deals too much, I got a 9.5/10 for the MBNA Fluid Card (35 months balance transfer). Did eligibility check, followed by full application and was accepted, credit limit fine for me £3000.

However I am naïve when it comes to things like this. I checks back on Money Supermarket before closing my browser and further down the available cards was the Virgin Atlantic one (also an MBNA card), this would've been handier as I fly Virgin at least twice a year for leisure and I've been collecting flying club points for ever!!

Would there be any merit in applying for the Virgin card today? Could I ring up MBNA when I get my fluid card to swap for the Virgin one? Or should I hang on to the fluid one for a while and look to side step in a few months? If I did apply and it got rejected would the fluid card then get rejected as well?

Sorry if I sound like an idiot, it's my mistake for not seeing what else was there!

Ta in advance
LP

No, you've been accepted for the fluid CC, so you will get that. You also get a cooling Off period on all cards, so if you got the MBNA, and then were accepted for the Virgin one, you could return the MBNA under the cooling off period.

  • This is my first credit card ever so I apologise for being a numpty. I was brought up on the 'if you can't afford it, you don't get it' frame of mind.

    Thanks for your reply
  • Hmmm just been called by MBNA.

They've said they can't issue a card to me as I don't meet criteria after acceptance. I assume because I have very little 'credit'

Slightly peeved but it's their decision, won't try again for 6 months for a card as don't want to waste a credit search if same thing likely to happen elsewhere.

Thats odd after accepting you and telling you your limit.

However lenders like Capital One and Barclaycard are likely to be more flexible as they have entry level products and both have eligibility checkers for their own specifics products on their site, (unlike Money Supermarket which is more of a generic one) - try one of those...
