Poor credit due to not being on the Electoral Role.

Hi all,

I'm currently staying at friends, therefore I'm not the electoral role.

I am also looking to rent a office to start a business whilst at the friends. However I need to get a finance.

Can I use the office address to get on the Electoral Role to assist getting the finance?

Any help would be great. Thank you in advance!

    No.

Why do you need finance anyway? You do realise that you'll need to put up 50% of the money yourself to stand any chance of a business loan, plus show that you can manage your own finances effectively?

Why do you need an office? Plenty of startups, inclusing mine (my main business turned over £19m last year) are started from living rooms. We moved into shared rented business accommodation when we could afford it, and took on our own office when we could afford that.

You'll be better off renting a room in a shared house, and starting the business from home.

Get yourself on the electoral roll at the address you are currently living at, temporary or otherwise. When you move to somewhere more permanent, change it. It's not rocket science.
The office address is not residential and you are not going to be living there.

If I was the friend allowing OP to stay I certainly would not like him being on the electoral loan at my address.

    Why not?

Unless there's council tax benefit fraud (with the discount) going on, I can't see a problem in it.

I prefer the simple life - I will disagree with you on this.

    Sorry Jones,

Wasn't looking for an argument, was just interested in your point of view.

You are effectively homeless if you are staying at a friends as a guest and do not wish to be on the electoral roll. You will find it extremely difficult to get any cheap finance at all. Creditors look for stability they don't want to try and find you when you haven't paid for the loan not saying that you would but you could.

You can go on the electoral roll without having a fixed address you need to speak with the electoral officer to register with no fixed abode.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

True, but the OP is not going to get a loan anyway if he is of no fixed abode.

It's very easy to register to vote. That said, being on the electoral register is just one factor on your credit file. How does the rest look? Any defaults? Lots of credit available?

Is your friend you landlord i.e. are you a lodger paying rent? If so, then there's no reason why you cannot register to vote at that address.
