What makes you think you have paid too much tax.
and also what makes you think you've been paying too much tax for 15 years.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Do you have a p60 from your employer with last years details on it. If so
put the figures up and we will help you.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I'm afraid I don't have a P60 i have been in and out of jobs and benefits for a long time but my last tax code was 10000L which i'm sure was fine just started this new place and paid £52 in tax and £14 in N.I on a weekly wage £270 which leads me think think i have been emergancy taxed as there is no tax code on my wage slip despite handing in my P45 to new employer.
I have been Emergancy taxed in previous roles but never chased it up so im assuming im maybe due some kinda refundSealed Pot Challenge 10 - #5710 -
Ive also moved around alot so even if they tried to contact me its unlikely they found me.
Also have rec a email a couple of times that is supposedly from the tax office saying i was due a rebate but i prob think that was a scam mailSealed Pot Challenge 10 - #5710 -
If you hand in your P45 and that code is used then this tends to sort itself out during the tax year, only being an issue if change of job is near the end of the tax year
Your P60 would come from the employer you worked for at the end of each tax year
Have you now provided your current address to HMRC? you can do this online. Tax coding notices etc get sent to the address they have on file for you.
If you confirm you have overpaid tax in the last 4 years you may get a refund...you cannot go further back than that...
If you have just started in the role and the P45 code has not been processed yet, you will likely find it will catch up over the next couple of weeks and you will pay no/less tax until you have caught up0 -
Ah so ur advice is to just let the tax code soret itself out once they get the p45 from my last employer and keep a eye on it?
Im not sure if im owed anything from previous 4 years how would i go about starting a claim etc?Sealed Pot Challenge 10 - #5710 -
In your position, I would sit down and create a spreadsheet with an entry for each year. It will be a useful exercise even if you are not owed any refund, as everyone is responsible for seeing if they have paid the right amount.
You need total income, total tax paid, the personal allowance and tax rate and bands for each year thus total tax due. I would check the net income against bank statements too.
Once that is done, you can see if you paid the correct amount of tax.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Paperwork - without it you're in for a very difficult time getting anything back. And if you don't have it for previous jobs, take this as a very big hint to keep it from now on.0 -
Or ring HMRC and ask them if your tax has been correct for the last 4 years.
They would have no reason not to tell you the truth and in any case you couldn't prove they were lying if you have no paperwork.
In future, keep your payslips etc.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

And by the way, HMRC don't send emails so if you receive any (as most of us has) it is most definitely a scam so delete it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
