Increase rents on family in house

A friend of mine who is a BTL landlord wants to increase his rent on a house a family live in. He doesn't really need the extra money just wants more profit. Anyway we were discussing it last night and he was almost foaming at the mouth at the thought of increasing the rent. We had to hold him back from going around late last night as he said he was going to scream through the letter plate fitting on the door. We managed to calm him down in the end but he is still threatening to increase the rent. Should I warn this family so they have time to start looking for a new place?

Wanting increase the rent is one thing. Wanting to go round and scream through the letter box that he's increasing the rent is quite another. I wouldn't warn the family about the rent increase. The LL will eventually have to put something in writing about it and they'll find out then. Either the increase will be a realistic amount inline with rents in the area or it won't. Then the family can decide to stay or go and find somewhere else to live.0

This sounds a bit made up, but the friend is obviously a richard if trueFaith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.0

If your mate is groin thrusting through the letter box he ought to be aware letter boxes are spring loaded and designed for one way travel so he might damage himself on the return thrust.
I'd imagine it's quite difficult to explain arriving at A&E with a front door attached to the tip of your !!!!!!.0 -

So what you are in fact saying is that he wasn't foaming at the mouth? If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.0 -
I'm prety sure that the LL has to give notice of a rent rise. They cannot just stick it up without warning.
If the renters are savvy and have been in the property for a few years, they may then go to the Rents Tribunal Service (I think that's what my friend calls it) who will then decide if the incease is actually allowed.Never Knowingly Understood.

I think your "friend" needs to come out of his shell.
A better way would be to hire an open top Bus and drive past the house shouting through a megaphone from the top deck surrounded by a dancers and an oompah band.
Those pesky renters will soon get the message.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -
