Nationwide - dreadful

TBH if you went off the opinions you see on here, you'd never do anything with anybody.
Every lender has its moments. Nationwide is not a lender with consistent problems on a regular basis.
The OP has ended up with Barclays. Now that is a lender I actively avoid as it does have consistent and regular issues which affect more people over regularly long periods. However, the OP's perspective is different to mine as they received a mortgage offer quickly and efficiently.
I know I keep harping on about it, but it's absolutely essential the correct lender is selected for the borrower at the outset and that is now the cornerstone of efficient mortgage brokerage, not chasing 0.1% on the rate achieved by trying to force the round peg in the square hole.I am a mortgage broker. Our OP is understandably frustrated, but as KS points out, Nationwide were asked to process an application that was presented as one thing (2 incomes to be considered), but turned out to be another that was outside of their criteria (3 incomes to be considered).
This case is not representative of Nationwide as a Lender.
All Lenders have cases with patchy service one day, and ones that go straight through the next.
We have two cases with a major lender issued within 6 working days late last month. Broker forums are currently saying the same lender is taking 13 days to make an initial assessment.I am a Mortgage Broker

Also remember that people posting on here tell you from their viewpoint so may not be the whole truth or will be skewed by their opinions.
We failed Halifax on initial credit scoring, Nationwide have offered to lend 70% more than we asked for, resisted going for a larger house just for the sake of it, been underwritten and awaiting valuation results. I agree with kingstreet, it is about matching lender to borrower. There were better rates around, but NW matched our circumstances.0 -
Had the full interview in branch with Nationwide on the Thursday and offer received by text the following Tuesday. I don't think anyone else would have been any quicker. Couldn't fault the service by Nationwide. Guess anyone can have their off days though.
