Nationwide - dreadful

Having secured my mortgage with Barclays a few weeks ago, exchanged this week and set for completion on 29th, I was happy to put the whole sorry saga of Nationwide behind me.
In short, they had my app for 4 weeks, all relevant paperwork, it was assessed by no fewer than 3 underwriters, and just at the point of offer, another underwriter then stepped in and said "he has 3 incomes, we only take 2". This had passed the other underwriters by it seems.
A month waster, a flat in jeopardy, Barclays saved the day by going from application to offer in 5 working days.
Since then I have had a constant barrage of texts from Nationwide.
Today, I got an offer text! It is an admin error apparently.
What annoys me, is that if I had been unsuccessful with Barclays, the today's offer text from Nationwide would have been life changing, only to call them and discover it is an error. This would be cruel, and they cannot operate this way, when people's mental health is on the line.
Previously sane, 6 weeks in the mortgage rat race and I'm fit to burst.
I hope sincerely, others have had a better time with Nationwide.

did you use a broker?"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Irrelevant if the OP did or didn't use a broker.

Agreed.
I've noticed a considerable drop off in standards from nationwide over the last few months to the point where I warn clients prior to making an application, but I would never have thought them to be that bad!I am a Mortgage Adviser

While I did (eventually) get a mortgage offer through Nationwide, they twice got my application 'stuck' so that it stuck in limbo each time for about a week.
It was only when I called did they find this out and then basically shift themselves in gear.
It took essentially 4 weeks for our mortgage offer to come through from formal application but another 4 prior to that to get the right DIP. Unfortunately I found that as we were a referral at DIP stage they had to do a full re-assessment each time a change was made (which is fine). The last time I made a change to say I wanted to take advantage of Flexclusive offers as I accidentally missed clicking yes the first time led to a 2 week delay getting re-approved took the biscuit, especially when we had been approved at the figures wanted already and nothing else changed...
We did not use a broker however- I'm sure if we did they would have hounded Nationwide more than I did and got our offer through sooner!0 -
Let's face it, they are the largest lender out there, so they will have materially more issues, but I'd imagine as a percentage of their applications it would be in the same ballpark.
This is about the 5th thread you have made on Nationwide. You had a non-standard application that went further than it ever should have. You have your offer from a competitor now, so Nationwide have clearly lost out on a business, so surely alls well that ends well?
During same period I went from application to offer in 4 days, so clearly Nationwide aren't that bad.0 -
Was the admin error because OP had already gone to Barclays, i.e. an offer but shouldn't have been sent. So if Barclays had refused and then OP phoning after receiving offer they wouldn't have been told an admin error but was an offer.
I know you are peeved at NW AMO77, but from you other posts, it seems you went to Barclays when NW offer wasn't high enough (due to 2 incomes), I may have misunderstood, but believe you didn't outright cancel NW until Barclays gave you an offer. Yes its unfortunate an admin error happened after you have told them you don't need them once you got Barclays, but its hardly as big an issue as sending an offer text by accident when you were waiting for it.0 -
No, three incomes.you went to Barclays when NW offer wasn't high enough (due to 2 incomes)
Broker didn't bother to read the criteria before he stuck an inappropriate case with the wrong lender.I am a mortgage broker. No if they had taken all 3 incomes, there wouldn't have been a problem, OP would have stuck with NW. The problem was NW were only willing to consider 2 incomes, so the offer amount would be based on 2, which wasn't high enoughkingstreet wrote: »No, three incomes.

Okay. I think we're agreeing here, but from different points of view.
You're saying two incomes generated a lower amount than the OP wanted and I'm saying the OP had three incomes which Nationwide won't accept, so the case couldn't proceed and should never have been submitted in the first place.I am a mortgage broker. Just saw an advert on tv for nationwide, stating, "Nationwide named Mortgage and Savings provider of the year January 2015"0
