Hi, I'm not sure if I am posting in the correct place but maybe someone can advise me. A friend has just started his own business and has asked if I could do some flyers, invoices and other stationary for him until he is a bit more established and can pay for someone professional. Problem is my computer just has Microsoft works on it and I find I cannot do alot with it. I am not that computer minded anyway so am looking for some kind of software that I can work with and edit etc. Not sure if I should be looking for clip art or what. I basically want to be able to put borders in different colours and patterns, add different fonts, colours, pics etc. So I can make some gift voucher and such like. My operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading.

Publisher is good for quick flyers - is that included on your computer?
Even Excel lets you do coloured borders. You can also shade cells with patterns and more than one colour, plus choose fonts. Or you can use Powerpoint and set your "slides" size to fit your flyers.

I only have Microsoft works installed. It is a very old computer and as I said I am not that up on these sort of things so am looking for basic templates that I can add pics and text etc to.

  • Open office is free and is supposed to be as good as Word of which you can do what you want and much more https://www.openoffice.org/

I use Serif's PagePlus for this sort of thing. They offer a free, restricted, version here: http://www.serif.com/desktop-publishing-software/.

After you've registered it they'll probably send you an email offering an older, but full version, for a tenner.

    Serif is good.

For a full, FREE, product www.openoffice.org There is a spin off from OOO which is www.libreoffice.com which some say has leapfrogged it's predecessor. Both are very capable.

Word (which came with some versions of Works) has a load of (somewhat ugly, but worth what he's paying) templates for invoices, comps slips, letterheads etc
